AS amazing, durable and expensive as quality oil is ...... NO oil or lubrication is worth a hoot with out quality filtration. Part of a lubricant's job is to clean, or keep clean, the engine it's used in.
As it passes through out the engine the oil washes minute particles of un-burned fuel (hydrocarbons), and wear particles from moving parts, like silicates and other minute matter sucked in through the air filter, back to the oil pan to be picked up (sucked-up by the oil pump), filtered and re-circulated through out the engine.
Most "economy" filters barely remove the larger particles and don't last very long filtration wise. You can tell by how fast the oil is dirty after a change.
AMSOIL's "EA" series oil filters cleanse 98.7% at 15 microns. The By-Pass filters have a efficiency rating of 98.7 % at 2 (two) microns. In a 5 quart system all the oil is filtered about every 10 minutes. Finer filtering = less wear on engine parts.
